A gigantic white scarf elegantly caresses the unique object that is so much more than a shopping centre. The architects from MSVA Amsterdam were tasked with transforming the formerly unspectacular building into a modern urban leisure destination. Mission successful - the Westfield Mall in the heart of Leidschendam is a popular crowd puller, and the design has won several awards.
For the façade design, glass-fibre reinforced micro-concrete was artistically laid in waves to give the Westfield Mall of the Netherlands its unmistakable dynamic shape. The noble "cloth" opens here and there, leading into the city, the adjacent Zijdepark and of course into the building complex itself. In addition to shops and restaurants, the 200,000 m2 complex also offers a museum, a cinema, a car wash and a dog hotel. In keeping with this "super market", the fire protection solutions from STÖBICH also fit flexibly into the interior: Textile ➥ Supercoil smoke aprons roll off the ceilings in the event of a fire, preventing toxic fire gases from escaping into other sections of the building. Super solution!
